Submission
There is no set theme to the exhibition. Artists are to present artworks in a 2D format in their own original style and/or theme. All artworks must be able to be hung on a wall.
The subjects of the paintings should be sensitive to the hospital environment. Subject matter, themes and designs which are of a disturbing nature and could upset ill or distressed people should be avoided.
If an exhibit is submitted on more than one panel, it will be recorded as a single submission.
No prints are accepted except for hand prints such as monotype, lithograph, etching, screen printing or engraving.
Presentation
Hanging
The display system uses Hanging Artwork Rods with security hooks.
Where an artwork is framed, the frames must be secure and safely attached to the painting. No clip frames or raw glass edge frames.
Two hanging (slip) rings minimum diameter of 15mm (like the ones you would find on a simple key ring), should be attached to the frame or stretcher bars securely approx 3rd the way down (or approx 10cm down from the top) the side. The type of rings used is shown in the accompanying photo file with this document. Hanging string or wire is not necessary.
Estates staff will be available to assist with hanging the artwork, but are unable to adjust or change the hooks on the artworks themselves. The NHS employees hold the right to reject any work unusually framed or of unusual shape which makes the works difficult to hang.
Any titles and headings on work should be discreet, and the name of the artist or initials must appear on the face of the work.
Labeling
A label must be attached to the back of the painting and another by a string, approx 12 inches long, which can be cut off or tucked behind the painting after hanging. The label must include:
● name of artist,
● title of work,
● medium (and substrate where appropriate)
● price.
Any collage artworks must have the elements securely and safely fixed to the substrate.
Sales
Every effort will be made to ensure that all possible care is taken with the pictures; however, the organisation cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage.
All artworks will remain hanging in the hospital corridor until the last day of the exhibition.
Artworks not uplifted within two weeks following the exhibition end will be disposed of by NHS Estates.
NHS Estates takes 25% commission from the purchase price. This should be calculated into the purchase price submitted to the exhibition secretary (Lucy).
Artists are reminded of their responsibility under VAT, and in arriving at a gross price, should take this into account.
It can sometimes take up to a month to process payments to artists. This will come as a bank transfer from the Sketch Club Treasurer.
