John Bell
Born in Ayr in 1968 and brought up in Fife, John painted from a young age but chose to follow a career in Architecture, graduating from The Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow (1993). Working as an architect, he continues to paint, having pursued further study at Glasgow School of Art. He paints primarily in oil inspired by Ayrshire land- and seascapes near his home in Troon or on the Fife coast. Whether painting a harbour or expansive shoreline, his careful compositions are always atmospheric, highlighting extremes of light and colour, but using subtle colours to reflect the coolness of the northern light. He is interested in the influence of the constantly changing weather, which can transform the mood in a moment. The sky often dominates his painting and he uses bold brushwork to express the form and movement of cloud. He exhibits at the following galleries: Art Exposure Gallery and The Gatehouse Gallery in Glasgow; The Framework Gallery, Troon; Overt Gallery, Newmilns; Arran Art Gallery; redraggallery.co.uk and scotlandart.com.
